Beekeep & Be Well: Nurturing Hives, Harvesting Honey, Sustaining Nature.
Embark on a transformative journey with the Pokhara Bee Research Center, situated on the serene shores of Begnas Lake in Pokhara-31, Nepal. As a committed researcher in beekeeping, I draw inspiration from the breathtaking landscapes of Pokhara, celebrated as the most beautiful and touristy city in Nepal.
In a world where childhood friends seek opportunities abroad, I stand as a testament to the potential for growth within our own society. My journey, though humble, is fueled by a grand vision—to be a beacon in my community and to unravel the mysteries of bees for the betterment of our environment.
Pokhara’s allure lies not only in its aesthetic charm but also in its unique environment, exceptionally favorable for the delicate art of bee research. Here, amidst the hills and valleys, the Pokhara Bee Research Center thrives, weaving a tale of exploration, innovation, and a commitment to understanding the vital role of bees in our ecosystem.
As the custodian of this research center, I am no extraordinary person, but my roots run deep in the very soil of my hometown. Childhood memories, coupled with a fascination for the intricate world of bees, ignited a dream—to establish a research center dedicated to unraveling the secrets of these essential pollinators. At the age of 21, faced with choices for a better lifestyle, I made a resolute decision—to contribute something meaningful to my motherland.
The turning point came when I realized the potential for bee research in Nepal. In the year 2000AD, armed with ambition and a thirst for knowledge, I began collecting insights into modern bee research techniques, tailored to the unique context of the Nepali environment.
Join us on this enlightening adventure, where dreams intertwine with nature’s wonders. The Pokhara Bee Research Center invites you to delve into the world of sustainable bee research rooted in passion, discovery, and the natural splendor of Pokhara. Together, let’s explore and uncover the vital role that bees play in our ecosystem.
Beehives History
The roots of beekeeping extend to wild bees creating hives in dry woods, a practice that continues in modern times. The evolution of bee farming has given rise to new, modified hives that significantly increase honey production. Unlike primitive hives, modern ones allow for honey extraction more than nine times per year. At Pokhara Bee Research Center, we locally manufacture modern and well-equipped beehives, including the popular Newton A and Newton B types. Our commitment extends to providing various devices that aid farmers in efficient honey extraction.
Materials used:
Toni’s wood, recognized as the major and best wood for hive construction.
Other woods such as Mango tree and Bakaino are also utilized.
Honey. Nature's Sweet gift
Bee honey,a sweet and thick supersaturated sugar solution,
is not only a vital component of the diet of many animals but also
holds a special place in human uses. Composed of fructose, glucose,
water, enzymes, and oils, the color and flavor of honey vary
based on its age and the source of nectar. Beyond its culinary uses, honey has a fuel value and is employed in tobacco moistening and baking.
